Celine, the over-exposed fashion brand

In the last five years, under the guidance of Pheobe Philo, Celine has experienced incredible growth with her accessories become status symbols for fashion insiders.  Bergdorf Goodman plans to anchor the store with a Celine and Chanel accessories during renovations this year, indicating how important the brand is to the store.  

 

Philo is largely credited for reviving the half-drowned Celine label.  Her first big accessories hit was the Luggage Tote, followed shortly by the Trapeze bag with tis unique and elegant charm.  Leading the way in colourblocking, Celine has also made a significant impact on the apparel side of the business.  The mix-and-match aesthetic with both colours and materials give a sense of depth in often minimalist collections.  Celine has become one of the most copied fashion brands on the planet and every critic's favourites. 

 

WWD has reported Celine is planning to keep Phoebe Philo's most recent design activity secret until closer to the retail sales season.  That includes, no media reviews, no tweets, no smart phone photos for the Resort 2014 season.  Celine is taking a page from Tom Ford who first launched his womenswear line in 2010 without photos of the actual collection.  Mr.  Ford explained that fashion had become overexposed, partially owing to digital technology and the internet.  "I want fashion to be fun again, like it was in the 60's, you couldn't wait to get the clothes and put them on, and I think we've lost that." said Ford.
